Our tours are Magical this winter

As advent calendars start to get opened and people start rushing around for last minute presents you know we are in the full swing of winter!

But did you know winter is one of the most fascinating times of the year here in Mid Wales and The Brecon Beacons. Here Richard picks a highlight or two from a pick of the seven tours on offer that you are only likely to experience in the winter months!

Hill Forts of The Brecon BeaconsOn this tour you are treated to a breath taking 360 degree view of the Usk Valley. In the winter on a clear day with snow on the hills contrasted with the blue sky behind it in the early afternoon its quite a sight to see!

Cwm Graid Ddu to Brecon BeaconsThe highlight of this tour is the walk to the waterfalls and Sgwd yr Eira in particular, which translates as the waterfall of snow! In the winter not only will you see multiple frozen icicles but as its out of the main tourist season there is usually no one else around and makes the trip so much more intimate!

Central Beacons TourMy favourite stop on this tour is to Tretower court and Castle. It’s a historic 12th century castle but also one of the finest 14th century medieval manor houses not just in the United Kingdom but in the world! In the winter with the frost on the ground and the Christmas lights and décor it makes the castle come alive!

Eastern Beacons Tour I enjoy visiting the Cwmyoy Church on this tour (our very own leaning tower) but in terms of winter we see a lot of scenery on this tour; Hay Bluff, the Black Mountains and Pen y fan, the highest peak in South Wales when these are covered in snow the area looks magical!

Grand Tour of The Elan Valley I’m fascinated with the history of the Elan Valley and always enjoying taking visitors to the 6 dams! We often if visitors want to stop and take a walk to one of the dams, in the winter it’s a great opportunity to blow away the cobwebs and then thaw out and have a well earn hot drink back at the visitor centre

If you are interested in a winter tour with Welsh Overland Safari we have availability throughout December and January and remember we can tailor each and every tour to your needs but don’t just take our word for it we encourage you to read the many reviews on our trip advisor page!

Looking to tie a trip in with a for a break in Mid Wales why not our friends at Pwllgwilym who offer self catering cottages and a bed and breakfast, for which they won best B&B in Wales with Trivago in 2017!
